Thank You for Choosing Rescue

Our 10-Day Trial Adoption Process

At NorthWest Wag Rescue, we know that bringing a new dog into your home is a big decision. That’s why we offer a 10-day trial adoption period for all approved adopters.

A 10-day dog adoption trial is important because it helps ensure a good match between the dog and the adoptive family. Here's why it's valuable:

1. Reduces Return Rates- Not all adoptions work out, and allowing a trial period gives adopters a chance to make sure the dog fits well in their home. If it’s not a good match, the dog can safely continue their forever home search rather than being abandoned or surrendered to a shelter.

2. Allows Time for Adjustment- Both the dog and the adopter need time to adjust. A dog might be shy, nervous, or overly excited in a new environment. A trial gives time for the dog’s true personality to emerge and for the adopter to better understand their needs.

3. Tests Compatibility with Lifestyle- Families can see how the dog fits into their daily routine — including work schedules, exercise habits, and home dynamics. They can also assess compatibility with children, other pets, and guests.

4. Encourages Responsible Adoption- Knowing there’s a trial option gives people the confidence to adopt thoughtfully — not impulsively — because they know they have time to assess the decision.

5. Improves Long-Term Outcomes- Adoption trials can lead to happier, healthier, and more permanent placements, benefiting both the dog and the adopter.
In short, a 10-day trial supports successful, informed, and compassionate adoption experiences.
Why We Do What We Do
Every second in Mexico, dogs are being neglected, abused, and mistreated. Many are abandoned in the streets or left in heartbreaking conditions without food, medical care, or human kindness.
At NorthWest Wag Rescue, we are committed to changing that.

We rescue these dogs, provide them with medical attention, and place them in foster homes or boarding facilities in Mexico where our trusted partners work closely with them. During this time, we learn everything we can about each dog—their personality, behavior, and strengths—so we can match them with the right family in the Pacific Northwest.

All of our dogs are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative before traveling. They are healthy, resilient, and more than ready to start the next chapter of their lives.
When you foster or adopt through us, you’re not just getting a dog—you’re giving a second chance to a soul who’s been waiting for love.

What to Expect When Bringing a Dog Up from Mexico
Thank you for opening your heart and home to a rescue pup! Here's a quick look at what the process looks like when you're approved for a 10-day trial through NorthWest Wag Rescue:

1. Approved Application
Once your application is reviewed and approved, we’ll move forward with the pup you applied for with an approval email.

2. Submit Trial Contract & Deposit
To secure your pup and move into the transport planning stage, we’ll ask you to submit a signed trial contract and deposit. This helps us cover travel expenses and ensures commitment.

3. Coordinating Travel
We begin searching for flight space—this could mean a kind traveler already flying to Washington or a volunteer donating their time to accompany the dog on the journey. We will communicate with you as soon as we have a scheduled flight date and provide all the information you'll need to prepare for their arrival, including logistics, supplies, and next steps.
*Please note: Because we rely on available travelers and flight paths, we don’t always have control over exact arrival dates.
We ask our trial families to be flexible, and we can generally provide at least one week’s notice before your pup arrives. Flights generally land at SeaTac around 8pm.

Going on vacation soon?
If you have an upcoming trip or schedule conflict that would prevent you from receiving the dog, we may need to move forward with another application that has more availability. We want to ensure the dog has a smooth and stable transition.

What if it’s not the perfect fit?
We totally understand that not every match is meant to be. If the dog ends up not being the right fit for your home, the trial family agrees to continue fostering the dog until a new placement is found. Don’t worry—we’ll support you every step of the way.

Thank you for being part of this life-changing journey. You’re helping give a dog from Mexico the chance to live a safe, happy, and loved life.
